Employee Giving

Tervita has a 30-year workplace giving partnership with the United Way of Calgary. The company matches all of our employees’ United Way donations, and together, we have invested more than $1 million towards building a better and stronger community.

Our employees organize and run the annual United Way campaign, working side-by-side to plan fundraising activities and volunteer in their community. The company encourages their efforts, knowing that these actions build personal connections within the company and inspire all of us to help further.

In November 2020, Tervita employees teamed up to raise more than $133,000 towards the United Way. The virtual campaign came together with the support of two Co-Chairs, United Way Executive Sponsor and Executive Vice President, Strategy & Corporate Development, Rob Dawson, and an enthusiastic group of volunteers that formed the 2020 United Way Volunteer Committee.

Throughout the 2020 United Way Campaign, Tervita employees from across Western Canada participated in a variety of online fundraising activities. The campaign began with a virtual Kickoff event where employees listened to impact speakers from the United Way, The Calgary Distress Centre and the Peak Success Institute.

Employees also had the chance to volunteer their time by making thank you cards for crisis volunteers and staff at the Calgary Distress Centre. The campaign ended on a high note with a fun and engaging Virtual Tervita Trivia Game where employees had the chance to test their Tervita knowledge.

“I’m incredibly proud of the level of dedication that went into making this virtual campaign such a success,” says Rob Dawson, Executive Vice President, Strategy & Corporate Development and Tervita’s United Way Executive Sponsor. “Our continuing partnership with the United Way supports Tervita’s values of We Care, We are One and We are Proud by enhancing the communities where we work and live, encouraging employee engagement and collaboration, and fostering relationships with the community through trust and respect.”

Tervita’s contribution will support the United Way’s goal of helping people overcome poverty, setting kids up for success, and building strong communities.
